Imanova Limited (completed)

The key role which imaging plays in translational medicine is widely recognized. In a project designed to transform imaging capabilities GMEC worked with three of its academic founders, King’s College London, University College London and Imperial College London in collaboration with the Medical Research Council (MRC) to create the new the joint venture company Imanova Ltd. GMEC led the process of developing the agreements which have enabled Imanova to take on the running of GSK’s Clinical Imaging Centre (CIC) located at the Hammersmith Campus of Imperial College.

The £47m centre had carried out GSK-dedicated research in close collaboration with academic researchers since it opened in 2007 and, under the new arrangements, in which ownership is transferred to Imanova, the research and technical expertise of the four partners will help to drive the centre into new areas and applications of imaging.

The new joint venture creates a framework for collaborative science across academia, pharmaceutical and biotechnology organisations. The three universities, with the MRC, will work to establish the facility as the UK’s leading clinical imaging centre and play a vital role in translating biomedical research into healthcare and economic benefits. The project is an outstanding example of GMEC’s ambitions to build new collaborations and new research capabilities which link its academic and industrial partners.
